January 1- 4, 2010 - New Years Day and Snow Storm

New Years Day
We did our first 'entertaining' on New Years Day at our house.  Sandra and Mark (Michael's wonderful sponsor) were our guests for dinner.  Our household goods being in transit, we had to improvise somewhat.  In addition, our oven is a bit small.  We had a 12lb turkey and I still had to bend the sides of the disposable aluminum roasting pan to get it into the oven.  Once the turkey was in the oven, nothing else would fit.  Our oven has one rack and can accommodate one 8" cake or pie pan at a time.  On the positive side, it's a convection oven and heats up very quickly.

Youngsan Snow and Polish Pottery at the PX
On January 4th, I took the 'base to base' bus from Humphreys up to Youngsan Army Base in Seoul.  It snowed on the way up to Seoul and most of the day after I arrived.  While on base I visited the PX where I found a large display of handmade Polish pottery.  My daughter, Sarah, started collecting  Bolesławiec pottery after seeing it on a visit to Poland.  I began collecting it a couple of years ago.  Sarah and I would purchase pieces from Marshalls and TJ Maxx when they went on sale.  We also picked up a few Christmas ornaments at Tuesday Morning.  The display at the PX was the largest I had seen and had a greater variety of pieces.  And the display included pieces from another Polish company, Unikat.
